First up we currently have a poll up on our Facebook Group page about our next meeting. We haven’t had one in a very long time and it’s time to change that. So please join our group and vote in the poll!
We will also be starting reviews of Sherlockian related books of all kinds. I recently acquired Michael Sims book Arthur and Sherlock and with any luck will finish it in a week and have a review up. We’ll also have a review of Compounding a Felony by Elinor Grey coming too.
A recap of 221b Con will be shared by a member or two in attendance and Scintillation X will be attended by yours truly and I’ll be recapping that weekend later in June.
It’s all very exciting so please join us won’t you?
It’s been an age since last I updated the blog/website for the Avenging Winters…who knew growing and then having a small person would be so time consuming? (Ok I did, but still I had hoped to update here and there before the wee one arrived). But since the littlest Sherlockian’s arrival on January 1 I’ve been a tad busy, as you can imagine!
Now for some updates: I did see the BBC Sherlock Special when it aired again on 1/10 as I was in the middle of full on labor when it first aired – which tickled some folks to no end that my little one arrived on the same day as the Special. I guess I liked it. Then again I had to have my husband explain the end to me…because now it seems my brain capacity has sunk to that of “everyone else” according to Sherlock. I can tell you baby brain is real and I really dislike it!
I’ve been a bit more active on our Facebookgroup – join us won’t you? There are some discussion questions posted as well as a poll or two about setting up our first meeting this Spring (finally)! If you are in the Albany area think about joining us! However, membership in the group isn’t limited to Albany area folks.
In other news 221b Con is fast approaching and once again I’m unable to attend for an very obvious reason (can you guess). But I know some of our members will be traveling to Atlanta. If you plan on attending panelist applications are open. Think about applying. I was on two panels at the 2015 GridLOCK event and while terrified I loved every minute of it. So give it a go and meet new Sherlockian friends!
That’s about all I have for now. I hope to have posts from more members soon including a review of some Sherlock Holmes related books and events across the country. Do stay tuned.
That’s right a time and date have been selected. Join us on July 23 at 9pm EDT when we’ll be watching The Illustrious Client (for obvious reasons) and tweeting along! Please try to use the hashtag #GranadaHolmes when tweeting that night. This way we can find you and tweet to you.
Creativity may be needed to watch with us unless you have DVDs. Youtube used to be the place to go, but that’s seems to be a thing of the past these days. However, if you need assistance in ahem locating a viewing method our friends at Art In the Blood have offered assistance. Tweet them at @Art_intheBlood if you need help.
It’s been an age since there’s been a Watch-A-Long of the Granada series on Twitter. So I am proposing we bring it back! I’m proposing July 23 at either 8 or 9pm for the return of the watch-a-long. We’ll be watching The Illustrious Client for obvious society related reasons.
It should be noted this episode is not readily available on youtube any longer. So you will have to have a copy of it on DVD or find ahem – other methods of obtaining a copy.
Join us won’t you? (And let me know in the comments or on Twitter which time works best for you)
If you were lucky enough to be in attendance Thursday night at SDCC you saw the first 90 seconds of the Christmas Special. Or like the rest of us mere mortals you saw series co-creator Mark Gatiss teas on Twitter that a treat was coming around 12:15am UK time. And what a treat it was…take a look!
It was just enough to wet our whistles…for now. Me I may have watched it on repeat for at least an hour…maybe more. But it’s something AND we know it’s really and truly returning soon-ish as the promo promises.
We were also treated to this little gem of a promo photo of our favorite Consulting Detective and his Blogger Boswell in their Victorian garb the day before.
So I’m wondering what everyone thought of this back in time look at Sherlock? And did you note the opening music and shot as a great nod to the Granada Series? I will tell you that made my heart swell and hit me right in all the feels.
You may have seen the above logo spring up across out social media platforms late last week including over to the right there on the sidebar. It was two weeks in the making with SRV Design. I worked with Seth who owns the business and happens to have a Sherlockian connection through his wife a co-director of 221b Con. He may also enjoy the books/shows…I forgot to ask!
But we plotted and planned and there it is! The idea was to incorporate the vitriol (the drop), Kitty herself (the silhouette), and some descriptors (the red of the fire around her head) and the winter snowflakes (for both her last name and the lovely winters we get here in Albany). In all I think it came out rather well and covered everything I wanted in a logo!
Are you going? Have you even heard about it? No…check it out here. I’m looking forward to attending as I missed 221b Con earlier this year due to surgery. Even more exciting – I’ll be presenting on two different panels at the event: Just tea for me, thanks – talking tea in Canon and Fandom and the other is Ink in Canon and Fandom – explains itself doesn’t it?
If you are looking to find me that weekend look for me as IllBeMother221B, but I’ll of course be willing to talk The Avenging Winters too! In fact if I can get everything together I may even have business cards handy for the society.
Too long, didn’t read? I’ll be there in August and I hope to see you there!
